Year 5 Careers Convention

The Year 5 Careers Convention was first held in 2015 as a relatively small event, from 2017 to 2019  and again in 2023, it was held at the Great Barn, Manor Farm in Bourn.  The goal of the day is to introduce the children to a range of careers options and help them to make connections between learning and careers while they are still in primary school. We hope to inspire them to value learning and to open their minds to new possibilities.  

 

During the pandemic we moved online and were fortunate that many of our regular exhibitors took part in Zoom calls with multiple classes of Year 5 pupils.  The pupils were treated to talks about different jobs and in some cases virtual tours.

 

During the conventions, whether online or in person our pupils have the opportunity to interview exhibitors and discover:

• ‘What school subjects have been useful to you in your career?’

• ‘What training/education did you need for your career?’

• ‘Why did you choose this career?’
