Chess Competition

The competition is organised as a round robin, with a minimum of 6 teams. There are 4 players in each team and the ability of players range from beginners to experienced. To keep it fair, within each team, the players are ranked from 1 to 4. The player ranked 1 is the team's most experienced player and the 4th ranked player is their least experienced. The Rank 1 players only play each other, Rank 2 play Rank 2 and so on.

One of our teachers acts as match referee and each year the result is extremely tight with only a point in it. We have some very good Chess Players in our schools.

All players get a certificate for representing their school, the Runners Up get a certificate get a Certificate for the school and the Winners get the CB23 Trophy to take back to their school for a Year.

Chess is growing in popularity across our schools and in 2024 a number of our schools had enough players to enter 2 teams into the competition.
