2023: Jeavons Wood Primary

Current Trophy Holder

Although there is a Trophy at stake, the CB23 Spelling Bee is definitely fun. The teams of 4 from each school comprise of one pupils from each year group in KS2, most schools run heats to find the best spellers in their school.

The rounds aren't just straight spelling though, they also include anagrams, words within words, definitions and the fiendish Countdown Round. Our intrepid pupils also take on difficult spellings drawn from the spelling lists for their own year group curriculum, and many adults watching on are always in awe at their ability to spell such tricky words. Then one brave soul from each team takes on the Ultimate Spelling Round, these are even trickier spelling words, drawn from National Spelling Bee competition lists. For this round its up to the team who volunteers to go up and it's not always the Year 6 pupil who is the best speller!

Mrs Downes who runs this events like to try and theme the event so in 2023 it was themed around the Kings Coronation so are all looking forward to seeing what she comes up with in 2025.

We are very lucky to be able to hold this event at Clare College and the room we use looks out over the University Library which seems a very fitting venue for an event all about words and letters.
