Public Speaking Competition

For many years the pupils across the Primary Schools of CB23 have been inspiring and delighting both parents and pupils with their speeches at the Public Speaking Competition Final. Held at Peterhouse in the Lecture Theatre, from the youngest pupils at just 7 years old they never fail to impress.

Each school holds heats to determine which pupils will go on to represent them at the final in early January. Each school can enter one pupil from each of Year 3, 4, 5 and 6. The Y3 and 4 pupils are given one speech topic and the older pupils a different one, the older pupils also have slightly longer to speak. Topics over the years have included;

• Space Exploration or Deep Sea Exploration?

• If I were in charge, a new rule I would make would be ...

• If I was a book character I would be ...

• 5 things I would put in a time capsule

• Should children be allowed to learn what they want at school?

There is a Winner and Runner for the best speaker in the Y3/4 category and in Y4/5 category as well as a Trophy for the Best School Overall. We are very grateful to staff and students from Peterhouse who volunteer their time every year for the difficult task every year of judging this competition.
